  انتشارات ایرانشناسی توسط مرحوم مجید بختیاری (و مدیرمسؤل مؤسسه جغرافیایی و کارتوگرافی گیتاشناسی) بنیان گذاشته شد و از سال 1372 قدم به عرصه نشر کشور گذاشت. از آن تاریخ تا به امروز، اصلی‌ترین هدف ما انتشار آثاری درخورِ مردم ایران بوده است. برای تحقق این هدف، پژوهشگرانی مجرب و نویسندگانی خلاق و خوش‌فکر را به کار گرفتیم تا هرچه بیشتر این سرزمین کهن و غنی از فرهنگ را به مخاطبان خود بشناسانیم. انتشارات ایرانشناسی به‌عنوان ناشر تخصصی حوزه جغرافیا، گردشگری، محیط‌زیست و حیات‌وحش شناخته می‌شود و در طول 26 سال فعالیت در حوزه‌های دیگری نظیر تاریخ و فرهنگ ایران، نجوم و فضا و ادبیات کلاسیک ایران نیز کتاب‌هایی منتشر کرده است که تعداد آنها کم هم نیست. نیازسنجی مخاطبان و انتشار کتاب در قالب‌های جدید و مطابق با استانداردهای جهانی یکی از مهم‌ترین اهداف ما در سال‌های اخیر بوده است و بر این اساس تمرکز اصلی خود را بر روی انتشار کتاب‌های جیبی، راهنمای میدانی و کتاب‌های مرجع قرار داده‌ایم. ما به قدرت کلمات و دانشی که در پس آن قرار دارد، ایمان داریم و بلندپروازانه و با تمام توان، رسالت اصلی خود یعنی شناساندن ایران کهن به مخاطبان خود را دنبال می‌کنیم.
